Is It Too Late to Order Corporate Holiday Gifts? 2026 Deadlines

October 12, 2026
Two DLISH working deadlines for December 2026 corporate gifts: November 13 for Italy-made, custom and US stock with your presentation, and November 20 for any new program. What closes after each, and what still works.

The Brief

It is October and the December list is not done. This is what can still happen, by date. Two DLISH working deadlines: November 13 for anything made in Italy or made to order, and for stock held in the US with your presentation; November 20 for any new December program. After each one, a category of gift disappears. The idea does not have to.

DLISH working deadline What changes
November 13 Made-to-order and Italy programs close; last day for US-held stock with your presentation
November 20 New made-to-order multi-recipient December programs close

The call we would rather not get comes in the second week of November. A firm with eighty clients, a budget that was approved in September, and a sentence that begins with "we were hoping." The gift they describe is one we would have loved to make in October. By mid-November the makers are full, the sea freight has sailed, and the question changes from what should we send to what can still arrive.

This is the second Gift Autopsy. The first took apart a $150 executive gift. This one takes apart the calendar. Our holiday timing guide is the evergreen version, written for someone planning in July. This is the October version, written for someone planning now.

One thing first. These are DLISH working deadlines, not carrier cutoffs. A courier will physically move a parcel on December 22. That is not a corporate gifting deadline. We target December 8 to 16 so gifts arrive before the final pre-holiday week, when desks start to empty and a parcel is more likely to be opened by the mailroom in January. Every date below works backward from that window.

November 13: the custom and stock deadline

Friday, November 13 is the last day to lock two kinds of program: anything made for you in Italy or made to order, and gifts drawn from stock we hold in the US with your presentation added. For a custom program, lock the concept, quantity, recipient count and presentation. Names and addresses can follow; the production decision cannot.

Here is the arithmetic for custom work, and it is tight. A named maker in Umbria or the Veneto may need around three weeks to produce a run, if they still have capacity when their own Christmas orders are on the bench. Then allow one to two weeks for consolidation, air freight and customs clearance into the US, followed by domestic delivery. From November 13 that lands at the late end of our December 8 to 16 window, so it only works for a short run from a maker who confirms capacity, flown by air. The earlier you decide, the more room there is. Custom branding, packaging or made-to-order products typically start at 25 to 50 units, depending on the item and supplier.

What closes after November 13: commissioned production of any kind, pieces made to your specification, personalised objects, custom-manufactured packaging, anything shipping by sea, tiered programs with different gifts per tier, and multi-country fulfilment.

If your gift has to say something about Italy specifically, decide now. For who it suits, read the holiday gift guide, which sorts by recipient and budget.

Until November 13: US-held stock

From late October to Friday, November 13, the realistic lane is product already in the US, with your presentation added. A sleeve, a card, a ribbon, a simple box treatment. This is what most corporate gifts are, and it is not a lesser thing. The best corporate gifts we see arrive in the maker's own packaging with a handwritten card. The worst arrive in a custom box that took eight weeks and says nothing.

For programs over a hundred units, or for anything with a complication (several countries, different gifts by tier, a nominated delivery day), we would rather have the decision by Friday, November 6. The extra week is what absorbs the recipient list arriving in three spreadsheets.

What closes after November 13: presentation that has to be manufactured, tiered programs with different gifts per tier, multi-country fulfilment with customs on the receiving end, and any program where the recipient list is still being built.

What stays open: single-gift programs, US addresses, simple card and ribbon presentation, and executive gifts handled one at a time. The boxes we hold in quantity, with prices and current stock, are in what still works for late orders.

November 20: the program wall

Friday, November 20 is the last day we take on a new December program with more than a handful of recipients. Not because the calendar forbids it, but because after that date the honest answer to "can you do it well" starts to be no, and we would rather say so in November than in a December apology.

After November 20 we still take:

  • Small US-only quantities, under about twenty-five.
  • Gifts we or our makers already hold in stock.
  • Card and ribbon presentation only.
  • A recipient list that is ready the day you call.
  • Expedited shipping at cost where it is needed.
  • Individual executive gifts, case by case.

What we do not promise after November 20: imported custom goods, complex packaging, international multi-country delivery, or anything heavily personalised. Some gift companies will sell you those into December. We would rather tell you what the parcel will actually look like.

A real late brief

Not a December order, but the same arithmetic. In late September a client needed twenty to thirty gifts delivered in Spokane within eleven days, at $40 to $60 per guest, delivered. Custom packaging was out. We kept the idea, used artisan chocolate that already existed in the maker's own packaging, and put the client's identity on the presentation bag instead of waiting for custom product packaging.

What disappeared was the production time. The idea did not.

If you call on November 15

This is the conversation we have most. The brief is good, the budget is real, the window is short. Here is what we would say.

First, stop trying to recover the October gift. The commissioned ceramic, the box made to size, the maker's name engraved on the base: that program is gone and chasing it costs the two weeks you have left. What usually goes wrong at this stage is not the deadline. It is a buyer spending ten of their remaining fourteen days trying to make the original idea fit.

Second, keep the idea and drop the production. If the plan was Italian olive oil from a named estate, the estate's own bottle in its own box, with a card that explains who pressed it and when, is a better gift than a generic bottle in a custom crate. The maker's packaging is not a compromise. It is the point.

Third, spend the saved money on the card and the delivery. A handwritten note from the person who actually knows the client. A delivery day that is not December 23. Those two things are remembered longer than the box.

Fourth, if the list is large and the window is under two weeks, split it. The twenty people who matter most get a gift in December. The rest get a letter in December and an experience in January, when they are back at their desks and nobody else is competing for their attention.

What does not change with the date

The federal tax deduction for business gifts is generally limited to $25 per recipient per year. That is a deduction rule, not a limit on what a company may spend. Recipients may also have their own internal gift policies, and those need checking before anything is sent, in December as in June.

Our position on branding does not change because the deadline is tight. We still prefer the company identity on the card or presentation rather than the object itself. Late does not mean careless. If anything, a late gift has to be more precise, because there is no time to fix it.

Questions we hear in October

Is it too late to order corporate holiday gifts in October 2026?No. Italy-made and custom programs, and US-held stock with your presentation, need a decision by November 13. New multi-recipient December programs close November 20. After that, small in-stock US orders and individual executive gifts may still be possible.

When is the last date to order custom corporate gifts from Italy for December? For DLISH, Friday, November 13, 2026. That allows about three weeks of production and one to two weeks for air freight and customs, landing at the late end of our December 8 to 16 window, so it suits short runs from makers who confirm capacity. Custom branding, packaging or made-to-order products typically start at 25 to 50 units, depending on the item and supplier.

Why not plan for delivery right before Christmas?Because we want the gift opened at a desk, by the person it was meant for, before the final pre-holiday week when offices start to empty. We aim for December 8 to 16. A carrier's physical cutoff is not the same as a sensible arrival date.

What can I still send if I missed the custom deadline?Products already in stock in the US, presented in the maker's own packaging with a handwritten card and, if you like, a simple sleeve or ribbon. The idea survives. The custom production does not.

Can DLISH deliver corporate gifts to several countries in December?Potentially. Before November 13, a new multi-country program may still be possible depending on the destinations, products, recipient list and customs requirements. After November 13, we generally will not promise a new multi-country program for December delivery. For international recipients late in the season, a letter in December and an experience or gift in January is the better program.

What is a Gift Autopsy?A DLISH series that takes one real gifting problem apart in public: the budget, the constraints, the choices and what we would do. No. 1 was a $150 executive gift for a race weekend. No. 2 is the December calendar.

The wall is not the end of the gift. It is the end of pretending there is time.
